Call for ASTNA Content Experts for the
NEW Critical Care Advanced Transport Course (CCATC)


ASTNA is seeking ASTNA members to serve as authors/reviewers/content experts for the upcoming creation of the Critical Care Advanced Transport Course (CCATC). TheCCATC target audience is transport professionals with 1-3 years of critical care transport experience. This course will be designed to increase depth of knowledge for assessment, monitoring, and care of critical care patients with medical conditions. This course will be a companion to the Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course and will follow the Critical Care Transport Core Curriculum. Authors and reviewers will work with the Editor and Project Manager to develop chapters for the upcoming text, slide presentations based on those chapters, and finally, assist in the development of the online course.

We currently have openings in the following sections for authors and reviewers:

  • Introduction to Critical Care Air Medical Transport/Approach to Critically Ill Patients
  • Respiratory physiology
  • Airway management and mechanical ventilation
  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Assessment of respiratory patient
  • Airway management and mechanical ventilation
  • Hemodynamics
  • Pathophysiology of shock
  • Cardiovascular emergencies
  • Neurological emergencies
  • Metabolic
  • OB emergencies
  • Abdominal
  • DIC

Project Schedule and Timelines

The project is scheduled to begin in June 2020, with a goal of completion and release October 2022. The author/reviewer group will meet as needed via teleconference and should be comfortable with using email to communicate with project team through the duration of the project.


  • Current membership in ASTNA
  • Actively involved as a critical care transport nurse
  • Research and writing experience
  • Education content development experience
  • Commitment to participate in teleconference meetings, as needed
  • Commitment to complete assignments and meet deadlines according to the schedule set by the project leads
