The content within has a primary focus on the concepts of trauma as it relates to the transport professional. These individual courses employ concepts, critical thinking, and medical knowledge from other disciplines including, but not limited to: critical care, emergency, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, bariatrics, and others as it relates to transport medicine and trauma care. 

 

Airway and Mechanical Ventilation    

 

This course is eligible for 2.57 continuing education hours. 

 


This course will help you:

 

·       Describe the proper steps to assess the airway in the trauma patient

 

·       Differentiate difficult airways

 

·       Describe appropriate management plans

 

·       Describe indications for establishing an advanced airway

 

·       Discuss techniques to evaluate, manage, and monitor the airway

 

·       Discuss management strategies for unique trauma airways

 

·       Describe medications used to facilitate advanced airway management

 

·       Define ventilation and oxygenation, describe strategies to measure and improve oxygenation

 

·       Discuss strategies to ensure effective minute ventilation

 

·       Describe the use of etco2 measurements for assessing ventilation and resuscitation

 

·       Define positive end expiratory pressure (peep)

 

·       Describe and troubleshoot ventilatory compliance issues

 

This course also includes videos that demonstrate:

 

·       How to successfully bag valve mask a patient

 

·       How to exchange a tracheal tube

 

·       Bougie assisted intubation, video laryngoscopy with airway decontamination and ELM

 

·       How to place a combitube

 

·       How to perform endotracheal intubation

 

·       How to utilize an extraglottic airway device

 

·       An airway scenario and the appropriate steps to establish an airway on an adult patient
