The content within has a primary focus on the concepts of trauma as it relates to the transport professional. These individual courses employ concepts, critical thinking, and medical knowledge from other disciplines including, but not limited to: critical care, emergency, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, bariatrics, and others as it relates to transport medicine and trauma care. 

 

Foundations of Critical Care Transport

 

This course is eligible for 3.07 continuing education hours. 

 

Topics that will be discussed in this course are Safety, Transport Physiology, Legal Issues in Critical Care Transport, and MCI/Disaster Response.


This course will help you:


·       Define safety culture


·       Describe the four pillars of a safety management system (sms)

 

·       Describe how to successfully plan for a transport and assess risk

 

·       Define policies pertaining to physical and mental health, stress and well-being, sleep, apparel, safety equipment, and emergencies during transport

 

·       Describe the characteristics and different components of earth’s atmosphere and define the gas laws and their relevance to transport


·       Define gas disorders and their relevance to transport and list physiologic issues associated with transport and their effects on patients and transport personnel

 

·       Describe the stressors associated with transport and their effects on patients and transport personnel

 

·       Describe the major laws, rules, and regulations regarding critical care transport and distinguish scope of practice from standard of care


·       Discuss additional legal issues

 

·       Discuss documentation

 

·       Describe the litigation process and guidelines for testifying

 

·       Exhibiting professional behavior expected in the event of litigation

 

·       List types of disasters or mass-casualty incidents and describe injuries associated with blast events


·       Describe the principles of disaster management, discuss triage systems and the need for effective triage in mass-casualty incidents


·       Understand the role of the medical transport team in mass-casualty incidents
